Pierce College Lockdown Lifted After Police Investigation Near Campus in Puyallup

A brief lockdown at Pierce College in Puyallup caused concern among students, staff, and the surrounding community after initial reports suggested a possible shooting near campus.

According to official updates, the situation was not an active shooter incident. Instead, the lockdown was initiated after the Puyallup Police Department alerted the college to an ongoing police investigation at Bradley Lake Park, located near the campus. Authorities were searching for an individual who had reportedly discharged a taser in the area.

Out of an abundance of caution and due to uncertainty about whether the individual posed any immediate threat, Pierce College officials enacted a lockdown at approximately 9:31 a.m. During this time, campus activities were paused and safety protocols were followed to ensure the protection of everyone on site.

Law enforcement responded promptly and conducted their investigation in the surrounding area. Once police confirmed that the situation had been resolved and there was no ongoing threat to the campus community, the college lifted the lockdown at approximately 9:54 a.m.

College officials later expressed appreciation for the swift and coordinated response from local law enforcement, highlighting the importance of proactive safety measures even in situations where the threat is not fully confirmed.

While the incident ultimately did not involve a shooting, it underscores the heightened vigilance surrounding campus safety and the importance of rapid response procedures.
